Relationships and Health Education (RHSE)

Relationships and Health Education will be mandatory from September 2021 and, as you know, the school was considering whether to include additional non-mandatory teaching on aspects of sex education in upper KS2.

All Parents and Carers were given the opportunity to express their views via our on-line survey and the pupils were asked for their views, also. These opinions have helped in the writing of our policy, alongside consultation with the school’s Governing Board.

Government guidelines require that by t he end of primary school, the school must have taught pupils about:

Relationship Education:

  • Families and people who care for us
  • Caring friendships
  • Respectful relationships
  • Online relationships
  • Being safe

Health Education:

  • Mental wellbeing
  • Internet safety and harms
  • Physical health and fitness
  • Healthy eating
  • Drugs, alcohol and tobacco
  • Health and prevention
  • Basic first aid
  • Changing adolescent body

In addition to the above and the requirements of the National Curriculum in science, the school also considered whether to continue to offer sex education lessons in (Year 6), which parents have a right to withdraw their children from.

School has based its policy and curriculum on the documents prepared by Birmingham City Council, and the school’s Policy, all year group lesson overviews and medium term plans are available to view on the school website or as a hard copy which you can request at the school office.

The link below will allow you to view all the available documents and if you have any questions, feel free to contact school.
