Our Vision

As Governors we will support, as well as challenge, the school to ensure that we achieve the best in all we do, to enable all of our children to realise their full potential throughout their school life and secure their lifelong success.

All decisions made by the Governing Board are based on the following criteria:

"Is it in the best interest of the Yenton child?"

Chair of Yenton Primary Local Governing Board

Mr Fowles, our Chair of Governors.

As a former pupil at Yenton Primary, I am honoured to be elected by the Governing body as Chair of a school that is aspirational, forward thinking and community focused in its approach to learning.

I am proud to say that we have a strong leadership team, talented teaching staff and dedicated support staff who all share in the commitment of empowering our Yenton children.

I am also grateful to have a Governing Board that is diverse, skilled and passionate about our school and is ready to strategically challenge and support.

The aim of the Local Governing Board is to work with the staff in helping the children achieve their full potential in a happy, caring environment.

We oversee school activity at a strategic level and work with the Headteacher and the leadership team to set the school’s direction and identify how the school will develop and improve. We focus our time on:

  • Monitoring the performance and progress of our children.
  • Working with the staff to help them teach and care for our children, and planning ahead so that the performance of our children and our school continues to improve.
  • Deciding on how the resources of the school are best used.
  • Act as a critical friend to the Headteacher; to provide support, advice and information; to ask challenging questions and to press for improvement.
  • Ensure accountability of the Headteacher and staff.

To deliver this effectively the Governing Board members are representative of all the key groups involved in our school – the Parents, the Staff and the Community. Some are appointed and some are elected. All serve for a term of four years.

The Local Governing Body generally meets once a term and we have one sub- committee - Finance and Resources (which focuses on finance, staffing, health and safety, premises matters) and many of our governors spend time in school working with staff and children to understand more about the day to day life of the school and monitor the progress that is being made.

It is of paramount importance to me that Governors are accessible and visible to all stakeholders across our school community. So if you’d like to talk to us about what we do or have any questions, you can always contact us through the school office or via email: However, please remember that if you have a question about your child or about day-to-day issues in school then that is a matter for the teacher or the Headteacher in the first instance.

Best wishes,

Tyrone Fowles
