Welcome to the Governors page where you can find out more about the Governors and the work that we do.
I am extremely proud to be elected as Chair of Governors at Yenton Primary School.
The aim of the Governing Body is to work with the staff in helping the children achieve their full potential in a happy, caring environment.
We oversee school activity at a strategic level and work with the Headteacher and the leadership team to set the school’s direction and identify how the school will develop and improve.
Subsequently we have legal duties, powers and responsibilities that we must exercise as a body, and we do this by:
- Monitoring the performance and progress of our children.
- Working with the staff to help them teach and care for our children, and planning ahead so that the performance of our children and our school continues to improve.
- Deciding on how the resources of the school are best used.
- Act as a critical friend to the Headteacher; to provide support, advice and information; to ask challenging questions and to press for improvement.
- Ensure accountability of the Headteacher and staff.
- We also have prime responsibility for the finance and safety of the school.
To deliver this effectively the Governing Body members are representative of all the key groups involved in our school – the Parents, the Staff, the Local Authority and the Community. Some are appointed and some are elected. All serve for a term of three years.
The Governing Body generally meets once a term, and there are a number of sub- committees, which focus on finance, staffing, health and safety, premises and curriculum and standards. However we tend to meet much more frequently and many of our governors spend time in school working with staff and children to understand more about the day to day life of the school.
Some of our governors are available at the school gates or at Parent’s Evening, so if you’d like to talk to us about what we do or have any questions please ask us.
Alternatively you can always contact us through the school office or via email: email@example.com. However, please remember that if you have a question about your child or about day-to-day issues in school then that is a matter for the teacher or the Headteacher in the first instance.
